You have to hand it to J.J. Redick (White Boy)

You have to give J.J. Redick credit where credit is due

You really have to give credit to J.J. Redick. At this point in his career, Doc Rivers gave him the starting shooting guard role on the Los Angeles Clippers. Let’s reverse back to his arrival in the N.B.A. after a great career at Duke. During his days as a Duke Blue Devil, Redick was a knock down 3 point shooter and played with alot of grit and determination. He was an outstanding free throw shooter and 3 point shooter at Duke, and he was selected at #11 in the first round of the 2006 NBA Draft. When he arrived in the NBA, most other players were stripping him of the ball on offense and he had a tough time driving in the lane. This is generally the case with players that lack athleticism, but this is where you really have to give J.J. Redick credit. He worked hard. He got stronger. He learned about the angles and honed his dribbling skills. He got better on defense. When most black players see a white guy with the ball, they immediately think they can do the “strip from behind” move. This means that they may let a white player dribble a few times, but when the white guy thinks he actually has some space to drive by, he will be stripped naked from behind. (this is just a fact and would be verified by most black players at any level of basketball) Congrats to J.J. Redick. He worked through this. Enough for Doc Rivers to have faith in him. He is still a knock down 3 point shooter, but he has totally adjusted to the N.B.A. game. He has a drive and good floater now. He doesn’t get stripped of the ball on offense. He is stronger and tougher. He is not a Duke bust that didn’t translate into the NBA. He is the definition of hard work and continual progress. I also thank him for debunking the “strip a white boy from behind” theory, which is generally true.
